Fallen Heros

This is from NASA TV on January 28th, and the NASA Day of Remembrance.
What makes this even sadder is the thought these people will have paid the ultimate price for very little if the administration has its way and starts down the road of letting the United States take a back seat to the rest of the world in science.

I’ve seen this, along with the Columbia recovery. It was amazing how many people from local volunteer firefighters to native Americans, people from many different states, came out into the rain to search for debris. Nasa noticed. I think in this case, they, were inspired by the people.
And now China will take 1st place in the space race. How will Washington DC feel about China’s nukes sitting on the moon? The last half of the 20th century belonged to the United States. We gave that up with the war on Iraq. We will never recover, we lost the leadership role that was so hard to win. It was so fast to lose. Obama must be crazy to stop the race back to the moon. This has been such a terrible time for the US.
I know what you mean, Gary. I could say a lot about politicians, but I’m a lady. And besides, Tom would delete it because this is a family oriented site. Rats.
I’m a liberal, no that’s not correct, I’m very liberal but there’s nothing more important in my mind than taking that next step in our evolution and that includes science and space exploration. We are on a time line, granted a very long time line but a time line nevertheless. We must keep going. We must keep exploring. It is imperative for the survival of mankind, not to mention the better relations it can immediately bring us with other nations of the world. Surely with all the money our government so casually “gives” away to make a hand full of people happy we can find the money necessary to keep the space program going full steam. That’s my 2 cents. Thanks.
I think that was much more than 2 cents, Larry. That was very well put, and I could back up everything you said scientifically. If we stagnate, sit in our little puddle, we will not survive. Nature has shown us that over and over. No matter how smart and in control we think we are as a species, we’re still on the bottom part of the ladder. We have so far we can go. So much to discover… makes you want to grab someone and yell at them.
