More Enceladus Flyby
The good folks at the Cassini website released more images of the very close flyby of August 11. The close, no, very close flyby took the spacecraft to within 30 miles (50 km) of the moon. The cameras aboard the spacecraft were trained on the moon just after closest approach, including infrared, can’t wait to see that data. The images here are not at the super close distance, nonetheless they are still amazing. Some of the huge “gouges” must be the “tiger stripes” – not that I really know that for sure.
Spacecraft to moon distance, starting top left and working clockwise: 2947 miles, 1881 miles, 1346 miles and 800 miles. Each image can be enlarged by clicking it. These images are available thanks to: NASA, JPL, and the Space Science Institute.
