Amazing, and not in a good way. Sounds like the firefighters are getting a handle on things, still it must be horrible out there. If you haven’t seen the images of the purple (lavender) sun, take a peek at Spaceweather.com.

Lightning strikes have sparked more than a thousand fires in northern California. This image was captured by the Multi-angle Imaging SpectroRadiometer’s nadir (vertical-viewing) camera on 27 June 2008. Cape Mendocino is at the center of the image and Mt. Shasta is near the upper right. Concentrated smoke is visible in several river valleys and the large smoke cloud extends over the Pacific Ocean for hundreds of kilometers.
MISR was built and is managed by NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Pasadena, Calif., for NASA’s Science Mission Directorate, Washington, D.C. The Terra satellite is managed by NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center, Greenbelt, Md. JPL is a division of the California Institute of Technology.

I’m getting tired of washing the ash off of my cars. We’ve been lucky so far. The closest major fires are the “Indians” fire and the “Basin Fire Complex”. Both of which are close enough to dump smoke and ash on us here in Gilroy, but neither one is close enough to be a concern.
However, we have another heat wave on tap starting tomorrow.

What are the fires like around Eureka? Is Eureka experiencing much smoke?
people shouldn’t be complaing aboyt ash on their cars they need be happy that their is guys who are out their put their own lifes out on the fires and i’m also a wildland firefighter wife and their is more people that don’t realiz e how long they have to be out and how hard it is to be away from family if you wash your car and you going keep spending money on it cause their is always ash on it not matter what you do a t least you have heros out their and putting their lifein danger i’m sorry if pissed people off but it is the truth they always think about their self and not their safty
the respons to thone who worte about gettin sick of tired of washing the car but they you need to realize everytime their is a fire their awlays ash no matter what where they are at their to put the fires out to make people happy but they can’t dropped everything to make you happy i’m sorry but this life and you can’t do much it is not different then you going camping the camp fire always have ash and when my husband comes home he smell like fire and ash and everything else you name it and thats how i feel
